Proxy Server
Patrons holding a valid MBLWHOI Access Card have remote access to all library-licensed products and services via the proxy server.
NOTE: WHOI patrons running VPN software on their computers no longer need to use the proxy server.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan services are available to members of the Woods Hole scientific community holding a valid Access Card. Requests for items may be made by using our online interlibrary loan form. For more information, please see our interlibrary loan policies.
Electronic Delivery of Articles
The Library now offers remote access to your document delivery documents. When we receive the article you requested, we send you an e-mail with instructions on how to download the article from a web site. This added feature allows you to read your interlibrary loan requests from anywhere in the world.
The Virtual Catalog
The Virtual Catalog is a single, searchable catalog of books owned by participating libraries of the Boston Library Consortium. Members of the Woods Hole Scientific Community or those holding BLC cards may request books directly from participating libraries.
Virtual FTP
Virtual FTP is a service that allows you to move large files or large numbers of files around our network without even using an FTP client! Simply drag and drop your files into the browser window and store files for a specific period of time. The site you create is secure, and you can use it to give others' access to your files as well.
Remote Storage
The MBLWHOI Library stacks are full! Like other libraries around the world, we are now moving some materials to climate-controlled, secure, off-site storage.
Items sent to this facility are retrievable within 24 to 36 hours at no cost to you. If you wish to recall an item from storage, please contact a librarian. Mariner records indicate which specific volumes are remotely stored, but for your convenience we include the following lists of items sent to date:
Cancelled serial runs
Serial runs that are available full-text, online via JSTOR.
As with any good practice, if we find we are recalling a series for many different patrons, we will bring it back and send other, lesser used materials, to off-site storage.
