The library collection includes a variety of resources both in print and online. Most of the resources you will find on the library website are subscription only. They have been purchased for use by MBLWHOI Library affiliates. The library genuinely supports open access and includes a curated collection of open resources as well.
Databases – how to find articles
The MBLWHOI Library licenses a variety of databases for the use of our researchers. The majority of our databases are not full-text. You will need to use the Get-Text link to determine our access to that particular article. The list of databases is browsable; however we have pulled the most frequently used databases to the top of each page. These include:
Elsevier Science Direct - use this database to search for articles in all Elsevier journals. The library subscribes to many Elsevier journals, but we do not have access to everything. Getting started video http://www.info.sciverse.com/videos/introducing
ASFA and GeoRef - This interface searches both Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts and GeoRef, as well as all at the same time. Both databases cover a variety of sources including journal articles, conference proceedings, white papers and book chapters. This is a good database to search for keywords or ideas.
Web of Science - Access the world’s leading scholarly literature in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities and examine proceedings of international conferences, symposia, seminars, colloquia, workshops, and conventions
Searching is for specific titles. As you type the names will be suggested.
The library catalog includes all of the books the library owns, both electronic and in paper.
