SCIENCE IS WE - MBL SUMMER 1954
Boat on Eel Pond Dock After Hurrican Carol, September 1, 1954
Watson was staying at Boris Ephrussi's flat in Cambridge when Hurricane Carol hit. When he returned to Woods Hole two days later he found "all the grass had turned brown, killed by the salt spray. Large overturned yachts littered the inner shore of Penzance Point, and all the MBL ultracentrifuges had been put out of action by the several feet of salt water that had poured into the basement from Eel Pond."
