SCIENCE IS WE - MBL SUMMER 1954
James Watson and Model of the Double Helix, August 1954
Watson kneels before a model of DNA, constructed by the scientist George Gamow in the yard of Albert Szent-Györgyi's summer cottage on Penzance Point. A plexiglass cube contains a double helix with golf balls studded with blue dots for eyes, a marine jawbone for a mouth, Watson's floppy hat on top and his painted golden sneakers as a base.
