The MBLWHOI Library Herbarium

Supported by a grant from the WHOI Sea Grant Program, the MBLWHOI Library is digitizing and cataloging its herbarium collection of more than 8000 specimens. The MBLWHOI Library Digital Herbarium is a fully searchable, online database of specimen images and associated data.

The MBLWHOI Library owns a nearly complete collection of Leuckart wall charts, produced between 1877-1892 in Germany. Even today the digitized versions of wall charts are used by zoology students around the world.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution image management system, WHOI ImageSource, includes visual resources from the collections of WHOI researchers, staff, Data Library & Archives, and Communications Department. The Data Library & Archives has contributed over 10,000 images which have been scanned from our archival collections, including scientific cruises, ships, buildings, people and events. Scanning of photographs is ongoing and new images will continue to be added. Current digital images are also added on a regular basis by other WHOI departments.

Alvin Ocean Floor Photos Database
http://dlaweb.whoi.edu/DIG_RES/alvin_photo.html A collection of selected bottom photography taken from Alvin dives starting with dive 128 in 1966 and ending with dive 3245 in 1998. These images include views of rock formations, hydrothermal vents and animals taken on the ocean floor worldwide.
